About Alison
Alison Boak is an active member of the Pound Ridge community.
In 2007, Alison was appointed to the Town of Pound Ridge Ad-Hoc Committee for Sensible Airspace. As a member of this committee, Alison works to protect the environment and property values of Pound Ridge residents from the Airspace Redesign proposed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Since October 2008, Alison has been leading a community effort aimed at protecting resident well water from pesticide contamination by the Pound Ridge Golf Course. She has worked collaboratively on behalf of the community with the Pound Ridge Town Board and golf course staff to improve the Golf Course Monitoring Plan to protect the drinking water of Pound Ridge residents.
In January 2009, Alison was appointed by Superintendent Jere Hochman to serve on the Budget Advisory Committee for the Bedford Central School District. She was also appointed Chair of the Subcommittee on School District Budget Comparisons. In this role she has been leading an effort to examine the budgets of similarly situated school districts for the purpose of identifying ways to improve Bedford's financial planning.
Alison also volunteers as a Brownie Troop Leader for her daughter Ella and fellow Pound Ridge first graders.
Alison has worked as an educator and advocate for children for more than a decade. She served two years (1994-1996) as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer teaching English to secondary students in the Republic of Latvia. In 1997 she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and spent one year assisting the Ministry of Health developing health promotion centers for youth throughout Latvia. In 1999, Alison co-founded the International Organization for Adolescents (IOFA) a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of young people by addressing critical and emerging issues facing vulnerable adolescents worldwide. She served as the Executive Director from 1999-2003 and currently is Chairwoman of the Board of Directors. Under her leadership, IOFA has worked to combat child trafficking has been recognized by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the New York Police Department among others. Additionally, IOFA played a key role in the passage of the New York State Anti-Trafficking Law in 2006.
Alison is a recognized international expert in child trafficking. She is founding member of the Freedom Network USA for Trafficked and Enslaved Persons (co-chair 2004-2006), the New York City Task Force against Sexual Exploitation of Youth (co-chair 2000-2003), and the New York City Human Trafficking Task Force (co-chair 2002-2004). Additionally, she has served on several advisory committees including the Catholic Charities USA Advisory Task Force on Domestic Child Trafficking and the National Child Welfare Advisory Board organized by U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) and the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS), and the Advisory Committee of the New York City Anti-Trafficking Network where she chaired the Law Enforcement Liaison Committee.
Alison graduated Magna Cum Laude from the State University of New York at Albany with a Bachelors Degree in English and Political Science. She has a Masters of Public Health from the Mailman School of Public Health, Division of Population and Family, Columbia University.
Alison lives in Pound Ridge with her husband, Allan Weinstein and their four children, Elena (14), Lidia (11), Ella (6) and Alexandra (2). Their children attend Pound Ridge Elementary School, Fox Lane Middle School, and the Pound Ridge Community Church Play School.
